Ok so I'm going to go into a lot of detail about this trip. My parents will enjoy this much detail but I understand if my friends don't feel like reading all this. Just look at this pictures!! It's just easier to detail every day on here. That way everyone who wants to keep up, can, and I won't have to tell stories more than once. Plus I will be able to remember everything if I write it down each day. Don't mind any errors or choppy sentences, because there will probably be several. Since I was dropped off at the airport I've been on a 9 hour flight, a 2 hour layover, 2 hour flight, 2 hour bus ride.
9 hour flight from DFW to London: It was cool to look out the window and see clouds beneath us and the sun setting. At one point there was a lot of lightening going on below us too. We were served dinner on the plane and it got dark about 2 hours in. There were video screens on the back of the chairs and a lot of movies to pick from. I watched two: Hall Pass (which was awful), and No Strings Attached. Then after that I tried to sleep but it was difficult with so much turbulence. I woke up with about an hour left to go..the sun was shining bright outside. We arrived at London airport and went through all the baggage stuff and security again. We waited about an hour after we did that before we boarded to fly to Berlin. That flight was about 2 hours and was very smooth. I slept through it. After we got off of that plane we got on a bus for 2 hours that took us to our apartments in Leipzig. Although I slept through most of the ride I woke up to see some beautiful countryside. Turns out Germany has wind turbines too!!
Upon arrival to Leipzig: we unloaded from the bus and got our room keys. I room with two girls: Alyse Goldsmith and Breahna Jordan. Downstairs is a kitchen, couch, and full bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a twin bed (which I am in), and one with a queen size. They have large closets and there is a bathroom upstairs as well. Everything is very nice. Nicer and larger than ACU dorms actually. There is no air conditioning though, so it is soooo quiet. That might make it hard to fall asleep. In the middle of these apartments is a beautiful courtyard where we were told to be very quiet because Germans like their peace and quiet. After we got settled in, we went to a professors flat and had pizza and orientation. Then we went as a group to get some money out of the ATM, which went fine. I took out 100 pounds. After that we went to the grocery store to buy a few things to eat in our room. I bought some yogurt for breakfast, water, and ham, cheese and bread for lunch. I think I will eat out for dinner. German grocery stores are an experience. First of all, nothing looks familiar, everything is in German. I had a hard time picking out a sandwich meat...just because it looks like turkey doesn't mean it is. Thankfully we had a couple fluent German professors to advise us. Nothing really comes in bulk, believe it or not, because apparently Germans buy groceries more than weekly. Also when you check out at the grocery you must have your money ready when the woman tells you the amount. Then you must take your groceries and bag them yourself at a separate table. Plastic bags are 10 cents each, so it is best to bring a backpack. Professors say Germans like order. I respect that. haha. So after we got back from grocery shopping my roommate Alyse and I went running. There is a park nearby so we ran to that and around it. The weather was awesome! It doesn't get dark til about 9:00 and the breeze is wonderful. I ran for about an hour I think but it felt good actually. In Texas it hurts to run 10 minutes. Its amazing what beautiful scenery and cool weather can do for your endurance. So after the run I came back to the apartment and showered. I guess it's bed time soon although I am suprisingly not that tired. I guess my body thinks it is 5:00pm when it is actually 11:00 pm here. Tomorrow we won't get started until about 11:00 am so I'll get to sleep in. I'm not sure what all we are doing but I think probably a tour of Leipzig is in store. Ok that's all I have for today. Crazy to think that in two days I'll be in Rome! Travel, travel, travel. No cool pictures yet, but I will post pictures of my apartment.
